Practice Description
This is my 20th year of providing services to individuals, couples, and families who need workable solutions to overcome their problems. My style is solution focused and reflected in the motto "YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE WIND, BUT YOU CAN ADJUST YOUR SAILS."
Assigning homework to my clients remains a vital part of my successful practice. I believe it is important for clients to be given the opportunity to reflect on their needs, desires, behavior, communication style, etc. between sessions. They may do so in the privacy of their home and explore the completed assignments in session. Feedback from clients who completed their homework has been positive. Assignments are an integral part of therapy and provide direction for self-exploration and an opportunity for growth. My style is direct and supportive. I listen and provide clients with feedback and recommendations.
Currently my clientele consists of approximately 15% children and adolescents, 35% couples, 25% adults, and 25% families. My clients present with diverse issues such as depression, anxiety, grief or loss, adjustment difficulties, substance abuse or dependence, communication and trust issues, sexual abuse and other trauma (PTSD), personality disorders and bi-polar disorders.
Whenever appropriate, I administer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Treatment (EMDR). I completed Level I training in 2005 and have been a certified Level II provider since 2007. When I treat a client who is stuck and needs to recover from trauma, I integrate EMDR into the existing treatment plan to facilitate rapid resolution. Depending on the trauma, a resolution / reduction of the emotional reactivity to the trauma may be achieved in less time than traditional talk therapy. If you would like to engage in this form of trauma therapy, please contact me to obtain additional information.
