Practice Description
I work with COUPLES in Ridgewood, NJ, or at my other office in Manhattan, on a weekly basis. After an initial assessment,I meet with the Couple together or separately every week, or some combination thereof, depending upon what will bring about healing and growth. I take a history of the relationship, agree upon goals, and work with the Couple on their communication skills. I work with Individuals to help them understand the origins of their behavior, assess which behaviors enhance intimacy and which do not, and try new behaviors which lead to a better relationship and to a more fulfilling life and more satisfying relationships with children, parents, friends, and people at the workplace. I do PREMARITAL, DIVORCE, BEREAVEMENT, AND FAMILY THERAPY ASSESSMENT COUNSELING as well. I also do FAMILY THERAPY, and FAMILY BUSINESS CONSULTATION.FAMILY THERAPY involves some combination of meeting all together at times, with the parents only, and with each child alone. The one who is initially perceived or presented as "the problem" is usually the one who is trying to get the family to address its dysfunction. That person often has the most remarkable healing insights.In BUSINESSES owned and operated by a family, the business can end up functioning the same way that the family has always functioned. The family doesn't initially realize that they're perpetuating and repeating, within the business, their old family ways of coping. They just know that something isn't working right. By understanding their dynamics, patterns, and feelings, the family owners can make conscious choices to break free of unhealthy family patterns which can otherwise undermine the business. ALL THESE FORMS OF THERAPY can be scary and painful, but it's very freeing and empowering to know what's happening and then be able to change it.
