Practice Description
In practice for 30+ yrs I offer my clients the accumulated wisdom that comes from years of helping people live more rewarding lives. In addition I continue to do my own inner work as I believe we are constantly in process of uncovering those parts of ourselves that for multiple reasons have been cut off,avoided,denied or repressed. It is my firm belief that as therapists we cannot take our clients further than we ourselves have gone.
Happily, the old stereotype of those seeking therapy being labeled "sick" or "weak" is disappearing. Quite the contrary,it takes courage to face our fears, dismantle our old sabotaging defenses and move forward into unfamiliar territory. Couples especially find it difficult to break old habits of relating, tear down the walls and move not only into a more intimate relationship with their Other but necessarily with themselves.
My practice includes individuals, couples and families. The modalities I use vary according to the needs and goals of those coming to me. I think intergenerationally, psycho-dynamically and systemically when I'm assessing how to work with my clients. I am always mindful of the connection between the mind, body and spirit of each individual.
I use genograms, dreamwork, gestalt, family reconstruction, homework at times and some psychodrama in my work in my office.
I have facilitated many kinds of groups,workshops, and retreats over the years for survivors of sexual abuse, dreamwork, family reconstruction and women's groups. I currently also have a monthly training group for therapists.
I see couples who have communication and intimacy issues; those who have suffered from affairs; those who have parenting problems as well as other issues. In other words they are trying to find their way back to each other in a healthier way of relating.
I see individuals with a variety of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, adult survivors of sexual abuse, those with relationship issues, midlife issues, stress-related problems and those suffering from the intergenerational problems stemming from substance abuse.
I enter into a therapeutic relationship with my client/s honoring their requests, willing to take their journey with them and always mindful that we are walking on holy ground.
