Practice Description
I believe that therapy is a process that comes along side of a person, a couple, or a family going through a difficult season in their life. I see difficult times as an opportunity for changes to be made for the better.
I work from a systemic perspective, helping clients to each look at their part of the interaction in their relationships and what they can do to make their relationships better. The issue that brings a couple into therapy can be as simple as wanting to improve their communication to seeing if a marriage can be reconciled after an affair. I also work with individuals who are in difficult relationships and the other person isn't willing to do couple's counseling. My work with these type of relationships lead me to write a book called "WOLF: The Self-Absorbed Christian Marriage". I help this person to see the changes that they can make that will result in making changes in the relationship. I believe in fighting for the marriage and respecting the client's values toward marriage.
In addition to working with relationships, I work with adult survivors of sexual abuse and bulemia. When working with bulemia, I also refer out to a nutritionist. I also have worked with individual and couples who are suffering from a chronic illness and are having to make major adjustments in their life as a result.
My major therapy theories that I use are Solution Focus, MRI Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I also believe that it is essential to consider gender, culture and spirituality issues as they affect the client.
