Practice Description
We're all just trying to find our way... Sometimes we need a little help, whether to get unstuck, to heal from losses or old wounds, or simply to build more satisfying lives and relationships. My experience--both in my own journey and in my practice--teaches me that the way forward in life most often is to increase our self-awareness and understanding, and to develop ever-richer capacities for rich and deep connection. In this way we come to live more intentionally, more fully. I believe my role as your therapist is to provide a safe, calm environment, and to listen carefully and thoughtfully. And to support you emotionally as together we sort things out.
I have practiced for nearly 30 years and have worked with men and women from diverse backgrounds. These persons came to psychotherapy with a wide variety of life issues. In addition to my academic preparation and advanced clinical training, each of these persons has taught me. I bring this experience to working with you.
My practice is with adults, both in individual therapy and as couples. I have special interest and training in addressing issues around life transitions, identity, emotional and sexual intimacy, loss and trauma. My approach is emotion-focused and attachment-focused. That means that I ask what you are feeling, and we examine what feelings are you stuck in and what feelings are you unable to know about. And I understand that when we are anxious or depressed, that usually means we are feeling insecure or empty in our marriage or in other key relationships. Sometimes it goes deeper, and we can't remember ever feeling safe and like we really were alive and thriving.
