Practice Description
I have been in practice as a marriage and family therapist since 1994,and my philosophy is holistic. Whether working with individuals, or couples, my work focuses on the interrelatedness of the parts to one another, and the whole. I look at individuals and couples in the context of their family system. Family history, individual history in the family of origin, and early trauma are are essential parts of my approach. In looking at relationships, how this tapestry weaves together when a couple joins, becomes the focus of the work. Developing new patterns of interaction that provide more balance and satisfaction is the goal.
As a certified EMDR clinician, I find this integrative approach of psychotherapy indispensable, in understanding early traumatic experience, how it shapes the individual, and the part it plays in an individual's life, or in the life of the couple. When trauma is reprocessed using EMDR, the memory becomes less distressing, and the individual is able to deal with the experience in a more adaptive way.
As a nurse, board certified in holistic nursing and stress management, I believe in the importance of giving clients viable resources to be used in session and on their own, so they feel safe, relaxed, and realize an increased sense of well-being.
