Practice Description
At times, individual and/or relationship problems can manifest as sexual difficulties. Sex therapy can provide a forum for an exploration of high, low or absent desire, difficulties with pain, arousal, orgasm and/or erectile functioning. It can provide an opportunity to try to make sense of the ways in which we may avoid intimacy with our partner and help us to better understand what prevents us from experiencing the type of deeper physical and emotional intimacy we desire.
Working through these issues in sex therapy and learning new ways to communicate more openly and effectively can move us out of disconnection and into a more authentic sense of connection with ourselves and each other. Healing past wounds in a safe therapeutic setting is the first step in the development of greater self-confidence and assertiveness. In both individual and couple sex therapy we can learn to talk about our deepest needs and desires in a clear, kind and straightforward manner.
BENEFITS OF SEX THERAPY
In sex therapy you will have an opportunity to address sensitive sexual issues in order to deepen your understanding of yourself as well as your relationship with your partner. Physical, behavioral, psychological, relationship, and spiritual factors that may be contributing to your sexual concerns will be explored through a mind-body approach custom-tailored to meet your specific needs.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is frequently incorporated as part of the therapeutic process, both for trauma resolution, to enhance positive shifts in how you feel about yourself and sexuality, and to build confidence and effectiveness in all aspects of your life. (

) Sex therapy can lead to powerful and surprising transformations, new ways of experiencing our erotic potential and a deepening sense of joy, freedom and self-discovery.
I am an AASECT (the American Association of Sex Educators, Counsellors and Therapists) certified sex therapist and welcome individuals and couples of all lifestyles and sexual orientations. In addition, as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, I am available for clinical supervision as well as professional training and staff development for mental health agencies and for case consultation.
