Practice Description
I work 100% with couples. I use an approach to couples counseling called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Right now, EFT is recognized as one of the most successful approaches to couple and family therapy with recovery rates between 70% - 75% and an improvement rate of 90%. While couples do learn some skills in this approach, Emotionally Focused Therapy is deeper than that. EFT provides a safe environment in which I can help you decrease conflict, understand and identify negative patterns of interacting, discover and name the painful feelings that perpetuate these patterns, develop understanding of and empathy for each other, and learn new patterns of interacting.
EFT is based on a theory of attachment. This theory explains our basic need for each other as human beings and the emotional distress that comes when we are isolated.
