Practice Description
Drew Joseph is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working in Washington, DC. He specializes in work with sexually, culturally, and racially diverse couples. He is a kink and poly-aware clinician, welcoming clients of all erotic sensibilities.
Clients come to Drew with a broad range of relationship problems, such as infidelity, lack of trust, excessive fighting, emotional distance, infertility, incompatible priorities, financial conflicts, sexual problems, and challenging life transitions. Drew is especially skilled at helping couples in which one partner has special needs related to recovery from addiction, mental illness, personal trauma, and/or chronic medical illness.
Drew helps couples appreciate and leverage their strengths in the service of positive change. He focuses the clinical conversation mostly on the here-and-now, rather than exploring the past. Depending on client needs and preferences, he uses a wide array of techniques to help couples, including listening, affirming, questioning, interpreting, teaching, arguing, and coaching.
Having trained in Buddhist psychotherapy at Naropa University, as well as psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the International Psychotherapy Institute, Drew has been in practice for nearly three decades. Whether it’s you alone who thinks you need therapy, or both you and your partner; whether you have tried couple therapy before; and especially if you are doubting the viability of your relationship at all—Drew looks forward to talking with you in his practice.
