Practice Description
When working with couple and families I take an intergenerational approach that views the family as an emotional unit is used to understanding the nature of my family members and their intense emotional connections with one another throughout the generations.
My goal for treatment is to treat the root of the problem.
As people work on core issues their symptoms often drop away.
BFST is a theory of human behavior and uses an intergenerational approach that views the family as an emotional unit to understand the nature of family members and their intense emotional connections with one another across the generations.
Being sensitized and reactive to one another produces an intense relationship that is often based on immature and unrealistic expectations. According to theory it is not the events or crisis situations that disrupts the couple or family system but, the way the couple or family reacts (automatic responses and/or programming effects).
My theoretical orientation, philosophy and approach to therapy derive their strength and validity from Bowen family systems theory (BFST). Bowen recognized that individuals do not function within a vacuum, but rather that people act within the context of basic human interdependence.

Gaining emotional objectivity will allow me to gain awareness and to better describe the functioning of my family’s emotional system factually. Humans function on a continuum from autonomy to reactivity. The more that one is objective and able to separate intellectual and emotional centers of the brain the higher one is able to function.
As a therapist my goal is to approach each person, family or group from a family systems perspective; to remain differentiated and outside the emotional confusion yet accessible to and learning more about the family so that I can help guide them as they find their path toward change.
